BENEFICIARIES: Individuals living with Lou Gehrig’s
Disease (ALS), their families and care givers in the 31 counties
of western Pennsylvania.
MISSION: Leading the fight to treat and cure ALS through
global research and nationwide advocacy while also
empowering people with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and their families
to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care
KEY EVENTS/INITIATIVES: The Walk to Defeat
ALS® is our signature fundraising event. We hold three walks.
One is in Johnstown, Pa., one in Erie, Pa., and our largest one is
in Pittsburgh, Pa., at Point State Park. Other key events include
the Anne Lewis Humanitarian Fund and Award, Educational
Symposia and Care Giver Weekend.
GET INVOLVED: We welcome volunteers to assist with
the planning and execution of our Walks. We encourage
families and people living with ALS to work on our advocacy
efforts. We also seek passionate, dedicated people with diverse
skills to serve on committees and boards. And we always need
people willing to raise funds.
BENEFICIARIES: ACHIEVA provides supports and
services for individuals with disabilities and their families.
ACHIEVA also provides therapy for children with developmental
delays. ACHIEVA currently serves more than 14,500 people.
MISSION: Founded in 1951, ACHIEVA has built upon a
strong foundation, rooted in the passion of parents who came
together to ensure that their loved ones with disabilities had
the same chances in life that all children should be given.
ACHIEVA’s mission is to support and empower people with
disabilities and their families.
KEY EVENTS/INITIATIVES: Each year, ACHIEVA
hosts fundraising events to help finance supports and services
for the individuals and families we serve. Fundraising also
allows ACHIEVA to offer advocacy services free of charge to the
community. In March, we host ACHIEVA’s Pittsburgh
Promenade Auction, and in August, we host ACHIEVA’s Million
Dollar Golf Outing.
