rom banking to business development,
education to energy, technology to
transportation, and commercial real estate to
healthcare, the eight women chosen as our
2016 ATHENA and ATHENA Young Professional Awards
finalists from a pool of 46 distinguished nominees represent
diverse fields, and personal and career experiences. While
each woman’s story is different, their shared commitment
to professional excellence, community leadership and
mentorship of other women is remarkable. Together with
the Allegheny Conference on Community Development,
we are excited to recognize the achievements of these
extraordinary women — each of whom leverages her talents
and experiences to create exceptional regional impact.
In addition to honoring the ATHENA nominees and
finalists at the luncheon, we will also introduce the
first recipient of the Barbara McNees Spirit of ATHENA
Scholarship, named for ATHENA Pittsburgh’s longstanding
champion and the retired president of the Greater
Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce. Announced in 2015
during our 25th anniversary, the scholarship will be awarded
annually to an emerging leader to cover her tuition at the
Carnegie Mellon Leadership and Negotiation Academy for
Women. The academy was co-founded by 2011 ATHENA
recipient, the late M.J. Tocci.
ATHENA finalists and nominees are an impressive group,
and it can be a daunting task to capture any one of their
accomplishments in a compelling nomination. We worked
hard this year to make the process of crafting a well-written
nomination easier and more accessible through a new
video tutorial, with expert tips and sample nominations
all posted on ATHENA-Pittsburgh.com. It’s not too early to
identify a worthy nominee for next year’s awards and you
are encouraged to take advantage of these tools before you
start writing. Next year’s deadline for submitting nominations
is June 30, 2017.
Please join us in applauding our finalists and award
recipients at the luncheon on Monday, Sept. 26. The pride
we feel when we recognize talented women leaders would
not be possible without the contributions of dozens of
individuals, organizations and companies. We especially
want to thank our sponsors, host and selection committee
members, the Allegheny Conference staff and those who
were inspired to nominate these remarkable women. Find
out more about the nominees and purchase tickets to the
luncheon at ATHENA-Pittsburgh.com.
Thank you for celebrating the women who are driving
change and growth in the quality of life of our region.
